Monitoring VirtualBox Performance
نویسندگان
چکیده
Virtualizers on Type II VMMs have been popular among non-commercial users due to their easier installation and use along with lower cost than those on Type I VMMs. However, the overall performance of these virtualizers was mostly found worse than the latter from VM user’s point of view and, the reasons remain yet to be fully investigated. In this report, we present a quantitative study of VMM performance in VirtualBoxin order to examine the performance bottleneck in this representative Type II virtualizer. Primary performance metrics for VMM and VMs are separately collected and analyzed and, implications of the results are discussed, with the monitoring overhead quantified through well-known CPU, memory and I/O benchmarks. Results show that VMM takes only a marginal portion of resources within the whole virtualizer for the case of VirtualBox and, our monitoring comes with merely a negligible performance overhead and perturbation to the virtualizer.

Evaluating Performance of Virtual Machines
Virtualization is becoming increasingly popular, both for servers as well as desktop systems. It is a core technology of the IT applications such as green IT and cloud computing. Operating system which directly communicates with system hardware is host operating system and Operating system which runs on hypervisor type-2 is guest (virtual) operating system. Performance of the guest (virtual) op...
متن کاملPerformance Comparison of Hardware Virtualization Platforms
Hosting virtual servers on a shared physical hardware by means of hardware virtualization is common use at data centers, web hosters, and research facilities. All platforms include isolation techniques that restrict resource consumption of the virtual guest machines. However, these isolation techniques have an impact on the performance of the guest systems. In this paper, we study how popular h...
متن کاملA Performance Study of Hardware Impact on Full Virtualization for Server Consolidation in Cloud Environment
Underutilization of hardware resources has always been a problem in single workload driven traditional OS environment. To improve resource utilization, virtualization of multiple VMs and workloads onto the same host with the aid of Hypervisor has been the recent trend. Its use cases such as server consolidation, live migration, performance isolation and on-demand server provisioning make it as ...

The purpose of this work is to evaluate the quality of encrypted VoIP calls with different encryption algorithms through OpenVPN software, in order to identify differences in results between encryption algorithms and also differences between non-encrypted and encrypted calls. This evaluation will take into account the MOS (Mean Opinion Score), a method to indicate user satisfaction of voice com...
متن کاملAttacks on More Virtual Machine Emulators
As virtual machine emulators have become commonplace in the analysis of malicious code, malicious code has started to fight back. This paper describes known attacks against the most widely used virtual machine emulators (VMware and VirtualPC). This paper also demonstrates newly discovered attacks on other virtual machine emulators (Bochs, Hydra, QEMU, Sandbox, VirtualBox, and CWSandbox), and de...
